Vigil Privacy Notice
Your recordings stay under your control.
Vigil does not require a Vigil account, operate a server for recordings, show ads, use developer analytics, or track you.
Recordings
Completed recordings are stored in Vigil’s local Vault on your iPhone with iPhone file protection. Opening the Vault requires Face ID or the device passcode. Vigil does not receive your recordings.
You can optionally save additional copies to Photos, a visible Vigil folder in your own Google Drive, or iCloud Drive/Vigil/Recordings. These copies travel directly between your iPhone and the service you choose; they do not pass through a Vigil-operated server.
Google Drive
Google Drive access is optional and uses the limited drive.file permission. Google Sign-In and Google Drive may process account information, identifiers, device information, usage information, and a coarse location derived from an IP address for app functionality, security, and their own service operations. Google’s privacy terms apply.
You can turn new uploads off while keeping the connection, or open Vigil Settings → Google Drive → Disconnect Google Drive to remove the connection from Vigil. Files already uploaded remain in your Google Drive until you delete them there.
iCloud Drive and Photos
iCloud Drive is optional. After iOS finalizes a recording, Vigil saves an ordinary .mov copy to iCloud Drive/Vigil/Recordings. It is visible in Files, Finder, iCloud for Windows, and iCloud.com when signed into the same Apple Account.
Vigil marks the copy as saved only after iOS reports it uploaded. If iCloud sync is delayed or unavailable, the local Vault copy remains safe and Vigil keeps the cloud copy queued. Turning iCloud Drive off stops new copies and does not delete files already stored there.
Camera Roll copies are also optional. Turning them off stops new copies and does not delete existing files. Apple’s privacy terms and your iCloud storage quota apply.
Other permissions and data
Vigil uses camera and microphone access for recording, optional add-only Photos access, Face ID for the Vault, and the Apple Account already configured on your iPhone for optional iCloud Drive. The SOS number you configure stays on your iPhone. Vigil does not request location permission or embed your location in recordings.
Retention and deletion
Vault recordings remain until you delete them or remove Vigil. Copies in Photos, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, or a sharing destination are managed separately and must be deleted there. Because Vigil has no account or developer server, there is no separate Vigil account data to request or delete.
