Vigil Security Notes

Useful protection, clearly stated.

Vigil is an early release. It is not a finished emergency or evidence-preservation service, and it should not be your only protection.

What Vigil aims to do

Keep completed recordings in an app-controlled Vault, require iPhone owner authentication before showing them, apply iPhone file protection, and let you create additional copies in Photos, Google Drive, or iCloud Drive.

What it does not guarantee

Vigil does not upload while recording, guarantee recovery after phone loss, provide cryptographic proof of authenticity, prevent loss before iOS finalizes a file, or protect against an attacker who controls an unlocked phone.

Screen Curtain is display privacy, not invisible recording. Recording laws vary by location, and the person recording is responsible for understanding the rules that apply. SOS opens the iPhone call confirmation for the number you configure; Vigil is not an emergency service.
